Heh... I should be getting a commission from Dell for the amount of business I send their way from folks who don't want win8 but who can't find any hardware being sold with win7..

Lenovo also offers some with win7 as well, but that is pretty much it.

Funny you should mention Lenovo... I missed this particular batch of press releases WRT Lenovo and Pokki... Lenovo plans to install Pokki's Start Menu replacement and app store on PCs | PCWorld but noticed it tonight while looking to see if there was anything I'd missed in the 8.1 release notes.

Pity they went with pokki as opposed to something like start 8, but I suppose it's a start at least.

If XP supported DX11 most of us wouldn't be here.

I wouldn't say that for myself. I skipped Vista, but found win7 to be a big enough improvement that it was worth upgrading to it from XP even though I'd taken the plunge and actually bought OEM versions of XP once MS started pushing their authentic version updates. :)

Win8 OTOH, isn't a big enough upgrade for me to consider switching especially with their outright refusal to backpedal on their vision of windows without windows and sans nested start menu.

My daughter needed a new laptop for college so we spent a few hours at BestBuy after doing some research online. After playing around with several models she asked why can't I get one with windows 7 ...

I new I could order one online but she wanted it today since it was her birthday.

We walked out with a Macbook Air 13.3" and she is extremely happy with it and the OS. I installed Office for Mac and she is good to go

I myself will not be getting a laptop with Windows 8 ...

re: Downgrade Your New Windows 8 Computer to Windows 7 for Free

Has anybody out there successfully downgraded a windows 8 Pro laptop back down to windows7? Is this still an active MS program?
