Anti-malware that shows malicious sites? Twice now in the last week my Wife's computer has been infected my malware: the 'FBI' virus and now this evening the 'Disk Anti-virus Professional' malware. She says she did not click on any window, or any other pop-up. She was surfin' the Net, and no it was not pr0n. A while back, there was an anti-virus / anti-malware app that prevented the user to go a webpage, and actually showed in the Google result window which site was ok, and with one was harmful. Her rig is protected my MSE, but I feel this is not enough. Any ideas? Tx much. |
Stick either the paid version of SAS or Malwarebytes on the rig. It blocks webpages that are known to be nasty, updates itself every hour and is very good with 'drive bys'. |
It seems a lot of people here don't like it, but I've had great luck in these situations with Avast. A couple bad Google link clicks and it seems to always stop the browser before any harm is done. |
This is a great little plugin for Firefox that does exactly what you want, or close enough to it. https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/fir...browsing-tool/ |
I've had great luck with the free edition of AVG anti virus... It has a link scanner which protects you from web based attacks. A warning pops up if you link to a bad site before any damage is done... It also will rate webpaged as to safety in a google search. |

AVG was the 'it' freebie for a long time but not anymore IMO. Bottom line, if a pc does get infected, you could spend valuable time trying to 'anti-virus' it...but your much better off reformatting and then installing a new Anti-virus (Avast :bleh:). I've hunted crap down through my registry manually (5 different places) just to see if I could do it...but now I just keep a system image and I'm back up in 20min. |
I use to have few fake anti-virus that pop up time to time when I was using IE, since I move all the PCs in the house to Google Chrome, I have not seen one yet, Chrome detect those crap and ask you if you want to continue to this website. |
Thanks guys, exactly the replies I wanted. I'll load your suggestions into my sandbox and drop a few nasties in there.... |
