Dolphin browser have a pretty good text resizing ability? I miss this the most from my iphone. Or is the ability to reorder text to fit across the screen something thats done in the OS?

Dolphin has a great zoom function from extremely large to extremely small and renders well at both ends.

Titanium Backup supports Drop box integration which would in turn sync to your PC.

Where's My Droid (find your phone if lost)
Tripadvisor (the Tripadvisor app and also the various city guides..the city guides are offline..you update while on wifi)
Whattsapp messenger (cross platform messaging app)
Dropbox (enable the automatic photo upload so that if your phone ever gets lost you wont lose your pics)

Ah yes, MY MOM doesn't get cell service at her house but still has the WiFi's

So she uses Tango for voice or video chat via WiFi

and Whatsapp for "texting" over WiFi.
