Don't forget even if you do that any info you have given them stays there even after you have canceled.

I haven't really given them any personal info at all. I'm more concerned about my info being shared by my cotacts without my knowledge/consent. That's the real problem here... I don't have anything to hide, but my position is that marketers who want my info had better be ready to compensate me for it.

Isn't that just Yahoo? Or does Rogers still host their own email service?

Yep, it's yahoo based with an @rogers.com attached to it, and my initial experience with it when I first opened my rogers account was less than stellar (50+ spam waiting for me before I'd given a single soul my new addy.... ;) ), but I found that making a longer email addy resolved that issue.

And is Yahoo's privacy policy any better than Google's? I've personally never read either, so that's why I'm asking.

Honestly though, I've never assumed anything on the Internet was truly "safe" or "private", so that's why I never really care about sites changing their privacy policies. The way I see it, if it does what I want, then I'll continue to use it. Since I have Android and enjoy Google services, I'll continue to use them.

My problem isn't that Google wants to use my private information, it's that Google wants to use my personal information over all of their products whether I want to use that product or not. I was willing to allow them to data mine my email for targetted ads, but I'm not willing to allow my personal and/or contact information to be used in other applications I may or may not be using......

Worst case scenario is that Google starts using some of the information from my email contacts in their own version of facebook without my knowledge... image not even having a facebook account, but yet everybody on your contact list who does have an account is getting updates based on your gmail information... I know it sounds far fetched, but unless they're willing to state catagorically that I can turn off any info sharing with my contacts (or anybody else for that matter) I'm not interested. (already switched my default search to Bing, and my homepage to gmail (as opposed to google) until such time as I transfer over my email account.

I think that it is funny Google hasn't or isn't really Adding anything at all, it h has always been like that it is just that now they are actually telling you instead of hiding it all in the huge amount of small print if you watch that video clip I posted earlier it even basically says that instead of having all of the policies that are linked to them or the own policies they made it easier for everyone to find this out in one place. that is why I have always tried my best not to use anything like Google at all I learned my lesson from Facebook and reading the fine print. Like sswilson says I have nothing to hide but I don't like the idea of any company ,Google or otherwise, selling my web surfing info to any advertising companies.
they way it is going I can see that in the near future people will be in a mall constantly being bothered because of the cellphone posting adds and beeping away. that is the kind of thing they most likely will be doing with your surfing information , never mind big brother or companies snooping into any personal info while you are applying for work.
