Ubuntu 11.10 Released Ubuntu 11.10 has been released and is now available for consumption. While I am an Arch Linux user, I do appreciate what Ubuntu has done to increase the visibility & acceptance of Linux as a whole. Enjoy! Homepage | Ubuntu |
Oneiric's big claim to fame is the 3.0 kernel. Considering the recent switch to Unity, it will be interesting to see how much the kernel helps or hinders, especially since the next release (Precise) is slated for long-term support. I wouldn't be surprised if there are going to to be a few kinks to work out. I also wonder how GUI-dependent users will react to to the removal of Synaptic. I'll be honest, there's enough that scares me about this release to make me want to skip it and go straight to Precise when it's ready next April. |

Hmm 10.04 is working perfectly fine for my customers, is there really a need to update? Will it run alot smoother or anything? |
There's been lots of changes since 10.04. So if your customers are used to 10.04, I wouldn't make them switch. Also note that I intentionally used the word "changes" as opposed to "improvements" for now. |
Yeah, a lot of people aren't too fond of Gnome 3 or gnome-shell. Also, Ubuntu keeps moving further and further away from Debian. I would just switch to Debian. I haven't tried 11.10 yet but I assume you can still install Synaptic if you want? |
