B) If you did restart and have the unpleasant issue
- use AVG Rescue CD
- open menu Utilities -> Midnight Commander
- navigate and rename these files:

They've set up a toll free support number for users of the free version.....

AVG Blogs | AVG Free Edition

As much as everybody hates to have issues like this, AVG deserves some Kudos for acknowleging the issue publically, and for attempting to offer solutions.

(Some glad I wasn't manning the internet support lines this week..... ;) ).

This issue has been very problematic for people.

Our shop received 5 computers yesterday because of this problem and following their instructions it didn't work and the system had to be reloaded.

This is no small price for customers.

To me that is considered bad. Frankly that is just unaceptable from a company that is supposed to be helping your machine. Its not just that you get nagged every hour or so, but if you can't uninstall it then that is malware itself. Reminds me of crappy Norton products I have had to take off of machines in the past.
