My System Specs

Default Laptop drivers

My friend has an ACER 4745G laptop with HD5650 discrete graphics and switchable onboard INTEL. The driver from ACER is pretty old and i wanted to install the newer 10.x drivers from ATI's website. How can I do that? And will installing AMD's driver instead of ACER's driver turn off the switching ability?
Thank You for your help.

I would advise against it. There are workarounds where you basicaly install a modified desktop driver on your laptop but it will probably diable any special features unique to the laptop. For instance my current setup lost the external hdmi/dvi when I installed the latest drivers, instead I had to roll back to a 3mo old version from my laptop's manufacturer.

Notebookreview forums is the place to visit. They'll be able to help you there.

Off the top of my head, I remember reading something like you have to install both Intel and AMD/ATI graphics drivers. And I believe only the 10.6 have switchable graphics...
