Default Does DirectX 11 install on it's own?

Quick question for the gaming gurus out there......

When I go to Microsoft's direct X update page it offers me the "end user runtime update", but while that's installing, the only references appear to be related to Direct X 9c. Is there something that needs to be done to properly update / upgrade to Direct X 11?

edit: DXDiag does report DX 11, so it's more of a question of updates.

I believe you get DX11 whenever you download the current generation drivers for ATI or nVidia

Correct.

It doesn't depend on the hardware. DX11 will be installed no matter what; the hardware only determines whether or not DX10 or DX11-specific features will be used.

I think it's implied that we're talking about Vista or Win7, since we all know they are required for DX10/DX11 support.

Does Vista support DX11? I thought only Windows 7 did. Either way, not like anybody should be running Vista anymore these days. I had the unfortunate task of installing Vista last night (fixing a friends laptop) and it was god awful. I didn't know how badly it lacked drivers. No WiFi, and the LAN driver wouldn't start, and a whole whack of missing stuff.

I don't think drivers update DirectX though. You update by installing the latest Redistributable from the MS site. Typically games install the DirectX redist as well, but usually rather dated versions.

Vista DOES support DX11 now. It was released in a Vista update a while back.

And another voice for DX now being integrated with Windows updates. One more thing that's become automated. We're coming close to the 'one touch install' for OS's these days...
