Default OK, sombody suggest a free(legally) WMA and MP3 player...

That doesn't suck. WMP11 and Winamp have made my suck list for various reasons. I wanna have all my friggin music available in a library of some sort so I'm not hunting through multiple drives trying to find it because the stupid program that is SUPPOSED to monitor the music folders DOESN'T.

I've never had problems with winamp ever, on multiple computers using networked drives for music.

iTunes or Songbird?

Foobar 2000. The core program might be a little basic, but with a couple addons make it probably the most powerful music player, AFAIK.

I think you have to close Winamp and re-open it for it to check for new files in your selected directories. It might only do a check every X amount of minutes too, not sure if you can adjust that but I know if you close/reopen it should perform a check.

WMP11 and Zune work great here in Windows 7...

Picks up my Music Library fine (which maps to 2 locations). On another PC I have the Music Library mapped to a network drive and it too functions perfectly with WMP11 and Zune.

Media Monkey... no question about it. Lots of customization, freedom to transfer music to and from iPods and iPhones, tons of playlist options... the list goes on. Although Gold is the better option, Standard works great and still beats out any other free MP3 software I've played around with.

*Edit* Oh yeah... and addons for just about everything.

+1 for Foobar 2000.

A great player that uses very few resources, and has some great features like surround sound support, easy playlist creation, folder monitoring, and ReplayGain.

All you have to do in Winamp to make it scan your music library again is click the Library button and select Rescan Watch Folders.

Get Foobar2000, have been using it for years. Very customizable, super simplistic and minimalistic by default and extremely light weight. Lots of features (DSP, built-in converters, plugins, etc...)
