Can someone please help me to use dban? Ive found info to wipe the whole drive, but havent found anything really helpful about erasing only the first 512 bytes. And after erasing the MBR and partition tables, will I be able to run windows to format and partition the drive as usual? Can somebody guide me through this?

if you have deleted the MBR, you have deleted the first 512 bytes at the beginning of the drive, you have done basically the same thing as a quick format and the windows boot disc should boot now if the problem was that it was finding a windows install.

Forgive me if my post was unclear. I haven't deleted anything yet, but as another poster stated, I don't have to do a full wipe, just the first 512 bytes, so if i can do that and save the time i would rather go with that option. Or am i just not making any sense lol.

Alas the problem is solved, windows is back and updated. I put the ubcd in and booted but picked the wrong thing and had to restart but instead of leaving the ubcd in the drive i tried the xpcd again and it booted. Drive successfully formatted and partitioned without having to use dban. Thanks for all the help guys.
