Default Switching from Nvidia to ATI

I just bought a new HD5850 to replace my aging 8800GT. I'm expecting it to be pretty awesome, however I need some advice for switching the drivers.. Are there programs I can use that will completely uninstall the Nvidia drivers, so there's no little bits and pieces left over to cause problems?

Also, what's the word on the most recent ATI drivers? Are they stable and problem-free, or should I get an older version?

Aaagh, just got hosed for what I'd typed, lounging while typing, must of hit a wrong key.

Anyway, download and install DriverSweeper, uninstall everything nVidia, then shut down and change cards. Boot into safe mode (or vga/low res whatever) disable a/v, run DS a couple times, then install ati drivers. Reboot into normal mode and enable a/v.

Or, uninstall the nvidia drivers and physics using RevoUninstaller, shut down, change cards, boot into safe etc. and disable a/v, install ati drivers, reboot into normal, enable a/v.

Revo - Download Revo Uninstaller Freeware - Free and Full Download

DS - Guru3D - Driver Sweeper (Setup) download from Guru3D.com

I've made a similar thread a year ago, feel free to consult it.

Thanks guys. It's unfortunate that DriverCleaner is paid software, because I see it recommended all over the place now..

Another question, I know there used to be some third-party drivers for ATI that were nearly as popular as the official ATI drivers. Are there any groups that still make those, and are they worth using?
