Eh Mark you realize that 1720 days uptime is small right compared to other servers running around the world? And that -for a certain reason- all the servers listed are windows machine? And that for most of the time if you have an uptime that big means that you are either living strongly by the saying "If it ain't broke, don't fix it" or your patches vs downtime balance in your brain is broken? And having an uptime like that means that your company never moved and never had any big infrastructure changes? And that having that big of an uptime means that you are in a place that is heavily backed up by generator or battery farm or it's eletric dam which has never a second of downtime? :P

That site means nothing hehe

Nice try... but there's no reason to buy an xserve especially if you are not a developper and need a compiling farm of these. dev == ridiculous price for a badass machine... especially if you manage to get your hands on some prototype servers ;)

Debian, CentOS, xxxBSD are all good for that. If you don't need ASP of course.

In the past I would have said use a linux install or something based on FreeBSD.

I *might* give Windows Server a try, but you can't beat the price of FREE, soz MS.

I would never pay for an Xserve. There is nothing special about them. Again, a price premium when you can get better hardware from someone else.
