Haha sweet....so thats the fourth driver in the 19x.xx series that will kill cards.

----

I don't really think it's the overheating causing the issue. The other 19x.xx drivers killed my card by wrecking the VGAbios. The fan issue is just one of the symptoms.

----

Good job Nvidia.Really.Outstanding work.

I'll now take the opportunity to state that I've only ever used 182.50s and nothing newer. Everything else has been "broken" in some way (widescreen mode support for example).

Used to be that nVidia's drivers were a strong point.

Am I right in assuming that the quality of their drivers has taken a bad turn, or is something else going on here?

I was going to post my usual "I wonder what they broke this time" in the announcement thread, but I felt I was being too negative all the time.

I can't even remember the last time nVidia released a set of drivers that didn't break something.

More coverage: NVIDIA 196.75 kills video cards News Item | IncGamers

Blizzard concluded the fans control in this NVIDIA driver is not working properly.

This means every single 3D application (i.e. games) running these drivers is going to be exposed to overheating and in some extreme cases it will cause video card, motherboard and/or processor damage. [...]

Some EVGA enthusiasts have been able to manually change the GPU fans speed settings using the EVGA Precision Tool to run their fans at 77% speed to compensate.

[...]

We reached NVIDIA tonight for an official statement concerning this worrysome issue, and they quickly replied within less than an hour. NVIDIA's response is:

We are aware that some customers have reported fan speed issues with the latest 196.75 WHQL drivers on NVIDIA.com. Until we can verify and root cause this issue, we recommend that customers stay with, or return to 196.21 WHQL drivers. Release 196.75 drivers have been temporarily removed from our Web site in the meantime.

At least they are admitting it.

No-one would say jack-shit about the 191's etc......Our problem was too small.....not enuff complaints despite the fact there were hundreds.

----

It sounds very similar to the first 19x.xx issues.......The 195's did the same thing for some users.

Nvidia is doing dynamic VGAbios control , fan speed 'on-the-fly' kinda things....they are low level controls and they don't always work.

----

A shaved pet monkey could make better drivers.Get your shit together Nvidia !!
