Default Best Freeware/Opensource image resizer?

Finally came to the conclusion that my default image program does an absolute crappy job of shrinking my screencaps down to a size which is acceptable for VB Image Host. I see no reason why shrinking the size should affect the "readability" as much as my current app does....

Any suggestions on something that does this well with a minimum amount of after-the-fact tweaking? (only freeware/opensource apps need apply... ;) ).

GIMP or Paint.Net, those are the "big" two.

If you're using Windows XP this is a great one, nice and simple to use...

Microsoft PowerToys for Windows XP

Called "Image Resizer"

I personally prefer the powertoy over anything else just because it's so small and easy to use. No application to load up :P

Hrmmmm.... I'll have to give it a try in paint.net. I've been using paint.net for years, but had been using a different program for resizing just because it was the program I normally used for selective screen caps. Maybe I just need to do a full screen cap and then cut/resize using paint.net.

It's also been a while since I looked at Gimp. I started using paint.net because I found the (then) version of gimp I'd tried to be a bit unwieldy for general usage. Maybe it's time for a second look. (That was at least 4 years ago).

This is what I would suggest... Select 10 images in explorer, right click, select resize, and then done :) you can either create copies ore re-size the originals.
