I went straight for the 9.12 hotfix and it has been xlnt so far.
Much better than when the 4870 first came out - bleaah
(I'm really dissapointed with folding on the 5850 though. I expected a drop to 4-5k, not 2k ppd!)

At least you guys have a 5850 or whatever GPU that you can complain about. I'm stuck on a 9600GT.

That folding performance should change once GPU3 is released...

5870 w/9.12 hotfix here. Stable as can be. Both 3dmark06 and Vantage ran great. ETQW: Awsome! FarCry 2: reduced the stuttering to a point I no longer have to type gfx_maxfps 30. Dirt 2: Stellar and stable.

Honestly, I think that a lot of people have unstable systems to begin with.

Probably true. However I was truly having driver issues because even when I reverted my CPU and RAM to stock frequency and voltage, I still got trouble with 9.12.

I've been running the 9.12 hotfix drivers successfully. I ran Vantage and some of my favorite games and it's been up and running stable for 48 hours now. Before, I would just need 1 or 2 minutes before seeing a BSOD.

Just a few points I wanted to make:

I have used every NVIDIA and ATI WHQL driver for the last 4 years. And I mean EVERY ONE. I have never had an issue with NVIDIA drivers other than when uninstalling their newer WHQLs. On the flip side of that coin, I have issues with ATI drivers at least once every three releases.

As for your problems, did you ever think it might be the card itself? I have had to RMA one HD 5870 Vapor-X and I know of at least one other reviewer who has had to do the same.

You should come over.Bring an nvidia 260 with you.

I will personally show you a totally stable , well cooled, non-overclocked system , bricking said 260 by the installation of drivers.

Did you flash to the unlocked MSI BIOS?

I was reading on XS that it has some issues if you use multiple displays.
