For now the problems seems to be a bit random but as you can see barker it isn't JUST the classified setups.
Hey Hades...we're talking about two different "HW Failures"...read back in the Thread....I apologized to Brain...so give it a rest already!

Brain...the 186.18 WHQL are fine...no reported problems at all.

I'm not sure they are different , but you may be right.I suspect the issue is related to CUDA/multiple GPU's in my case , but who knows.I'm actually looking into it.

Dun worry about HaDeS.He's just looking out for me.S'all good.

Funny thing is , he knew about this issue before I did.cls||Grinder just RMA'd his 280 for exactly the same issue , after upgrading drivers.....we just did'nt see the issue till now.

Yep like Brain said... and don't put me in the noob catagory thanks. I'll never claim to know it all but I have installed enough computers to "know better". Expounded... I ask questions when I don't know but I'm not afraid to experiment.

So I've had a few beer , and read the release notes for the 185.5 , 186.18 , and 190.38 drivers (whql versions)...

The 185.85's work perfectly.The 190's killed my card.Here's the differences (roughly) :

The 185.85 use :

CUDA 2.2
OpenGL 3.0
PhysX build 9.09.0408

186.18's :

CUDA 2.2
OpenGL 3.0
PhysX build 9.09.0428

The 190.38's :

CUDA 2.3
OpenGL 3.1
PhysX build 9.09.0428

------

This is of course , not including the numerous control panel/operations changes.

Obviously , I could eliminate the physX as the issue with a successful 186.18 driver install.....Won't be with MY 260 tho.....haha

-----

My case is pretty uncommon , most people don't run dual monitors. It's quite possible it's a an Nview/control issue within the drivers.....The fact that I have 2 friends with single monitor setups with dead cards from these drivers suggest it's not.

... it could be CUDA or OpenGL too.....

Without access to the actual specs/detailed changes/etc of the driver packages , I doubt we'll know.

----

I think this has a chance of coming out in the wash.Somebody will admit something. From what I've seen , It's a real issue. We'll see I guess.

My video card has been showing some signs of dieing in the past few weeks or so. Now that I think about it I installed 195.62 around that time too. I'm doing a fresh install tomorrow after I get a SSD for Christmas so I'll try to install what I was using before and see if there's still problems.

EDIT: I use Windows 7 64 bit. Some of the things I got were freezing at start up, areo failing and dropping back to windows basic, games freezing and sticking there, BSODs, etc. One time Windows even started using the onboard video and giving me a warning saying the drivers reported the video card failing. I'm going to try the 185.85 driver since I used those with no problems before.

My card could just be crapping out though, but I hope not.

Does some signs of dying include random black screens?

If you mean me: not really no. Sometimes I'll get a black screen that it gets stuck at during boot.
