Default The Nvidia PhysX dilema with ATI cards

I need to start some sort of conversation regarding this.

It's possible to take an 8000 Series Nvidia or higher card and use it as your PhysX accelerator with an ATI card for graphic processing.

Thus Nvidia card does the cool work of PhysX and ATI does the nice Graphics.

As most of us all know. Progress has been made on only Windows XP and Windows 7 due to the inability of vista supporting 2 graphic/display drivers at the same time.

I refuse to believe that draws the line in the sand.

I'm hoping we can get some further input on this situation.

Thus far I am still attempting to get a Geforce 9500GS to be supported with my CF 4870 1GB. So far I can't even get Vista to detect the card is even pluged into the board. Either I'm forgeting something key or there needs to be some type of FIX for this.

Does anyone believe that Vista's lack of support with dual display drivers is a lack of programing or perhaps just a setting?

I want to believe it's possible to trick vista in sorts. More like make the card detected but not as a display driver. I'm hoping this might spark and idea.

Come on people, lets talk about this. IT'S DAMN EXCITING!!!

Vista (WDDM 1.0) does not support more than one active display driver at a time, period. There is no way to do it with Vista. WDDM 1.1, which is used in Windows 7, adds support for this.

Yes, but NVIDIA has blocked PhysX from working when there is an ATI card in the system.

But there are ways around Nvidia's selfishness/greed. A patch/hack is available to get PhysX working in Win7 when an Ati card is present (provided you have an Nvidia card for PhysX)

Hack gets PhysX and Radeon working again - XtremeSystems Forums

Can you see why Nvidia blocked Ati cards from running with an Nvidia card for PhysX, I can.

From my understanding thus far, The newer PhysX software is allowing ATI cards. Not to sure on any details yet.

One this is Fact: It's been done and still being done.

I do believe it's possible to patch Vista to make this work. Either that or what I mentioned earlier and have the Nvidia card detected and read but not as a display device.

Yes, but you could never do that with Vista anyway due to the limitation I mentioned. That option was (and is now through workarounds) present only in XP and Windows 7.

Just got this working with Windows 7 Ultimate x64. You can't use the new 195.62's, however the 191.07 driver is working fine.

The OP already has two 4870s in Crossfire, so why would he want to switch to nVidia cards?

If I could have ATI hardware working with Nvidia made drivers things would be awesome. I just love the idea and the challenge of having ATI graphics and Nvidia physX working together.
