I'm also wondering if the drives are in different systems.
If so, the one with the black may need some updated drivers (burst rate looks a bit low... I had a similar issue with a 500GB black).

The 500GB black probably needs a defrag, and the system may need updated motherboard drivers or you need to change some BIOS settings.
I haven't tried one with Windows7, but my gf has one running Vista and it gets min 53/ max 113/ avg 91/ access 12.9/ burst rate 126 (according to HDTune).

my max and average are about the same as your... the low 25 is due to something accessing the drive at that time ...look it's only a short peak.. I have 2 other 640 black in 2 other pc , but with vista , I will check later

as I said , I will order a SSD probably this week .....

Thanks, guys.

I'm still not able to get over 111 MB/s max transfer rate on my 640GB black.
Have cleaned up, defragged, shut off a bunch of services... still no improvement.
Wondering if maybe it has to do with the small 200MB partition Win7 created when I installed.
I was going to just install without it, but figured I'd try this way.
Maybe I might reinstall without that small partition and see if it improves at all since it's the very beginning of the disk that used to hit 113 - 116 MB/s.

Keep posting results.
