i would assume Office 2007 will look for a valid 2003 installation on the machine before continuing.

I hope my reply is not too late. For the old lady without much $ to spend, I suggest OpenOffice suite which is free. It can read or write MS office doc, spreadsheets, graphs, etc. It works much better than MS Office, requiring much less resources in an old machine. I would say, 90% of the commands are the same (which are all drop down menu, and she just need to find it). I know, because I use it in my 2004 Dell laptop which has less than 1 GB of ram and running at 1.6 GHz cpu.

thanks Chris ..but OpenOffice is out of question..... let me be more clear : the woman want to buy office 2007 pro... she ask me if she need to buy the full version . I tell her she have 2 options to save money OEM or Upgrade ( she have already the 2003 pro ) ..... after she left, I was asking my self... if she upgrade and need to re format her pc.. . did she need to reinstall the office 2003 before the upgrade with the upgrade version.
