I have to retract my one statement a little.

Windows XP rocks. It's Microsoft's first OS that JUST WORKED

If I was to build a machine that was only to have 2gb of ram I would use Windows XP 32bit... unless there was a reason to use Win7. Windows XP is great and it's more configurable. I still haven't figured out how to get "classic" menu style in Windows 7, which pisses me off. Vista had it.

I agree. Vista or Windows XP could take up the 32bit slack just fine.

XP can't take up the slack due to being lack of security updates and etc.
Vista will be canned sooner than later as Windows 7 will out sell it.

And the only way to make any profits is to allow both versions otherwise people will not be happy.

as for most "normal" people they get there computers from future shop/best buy or some other chain electronic stores, and the price for 64bit + 4gb ram would cost another $300-$400

thats why most consumers only use 2gb + 32bit os
