My System Specs

Dancing_Banana Windows Home Server on a min. spec. mach.

Should I even bother?

1GHz P3
512MB RAM - maxed out already

I need to get some sort of a server setup and our sysadmin here at work is is on vacation so I can't grab an older server version. I'm getting the trial version of Home Server from MS to hold me over.

Er, will it even support a serial device attached to it?

And why the heck does Nero insist that the ISO is for CD-R, it won't bloody fit on a CD-R

and the stupid machine only has a CD drive in it, arrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrgh

I'd say no.

And depending on what you want to do, Home Server probably isn't going to suffice.

Pretty sure you'll need a DVD check the filesize and Nero is garbage, use ImgBurn.

Those specs I'd say don't bother.

It may work but it won't be very responsive (it runs on 1.6Ghz single core atoms). And you also need a 80Gb drive plus one additional drive to get it up and running. I would also recommend a Gigabit ethernet card or file transfers will be horribly slow. You will also most likely run out of HDD attachement options pretty quick and will need to add SATA or USB 2.0 add in cards or something to expand it.

Just drop $200 on a new mobo, ram and CPU and go with that, you will be much happier.
