Default Desktop icons faded

I have a question, why do the desktop icons "fade"? I am using Win7 but I noticed this with XP also. The icons are noticeably duller than normal and duller than most of the others. This happened the other day for no reason, as in I was not changing anything around. I tried googling but no luck so far.

Try Armor All for that fade resistant finish!

Check in the file properties if they are set to "Hidden" or not

If you check the icon properties general - hidden may be checked. Try Unchecking Hidden.
