Windows XP Problem...

My gf is having another problem with her Compaq desktop POS... looks serious this time.
She was doing some stuff (she says all she did was a disk cleanup) and then got a windows file recovery error.
She says it wouldn't go away so she rebooted.
Now her system won't boot up.

Here's the error:
Windows could not start because the following file is missing or corrupt: \WINDOWS\system32\c_1252.nls

What can I do to fix this?
Can I fix this???
She doesn't have a windows disk.
Also, it's really important to her that I save her work from today if possible.

Running Compaq System Recovery right now...
I hope it fixes the problem or this is going to be a bad night.

You can always try the microsoft solution - Error: "C_1252.nls File Missing or Corrupt" During Startup

If you don't have a windows cd then about your only option is the first one in the article. Otherwise you may need to copy it over from another system, not sure if that will work though. Post back your results and I could always copy the file from an XP cd and post it on a hosting site. Then you could use something like Hiren's Boot cd or Bart PE and expand that file from whatever media you put it on.

Looks like Compaq System Recovery worked.
My life can go on for another day .


Now I get the fun of reinstalling updates and drivers and crap!

I'd recommend backing up any of her important documents to an external hdd, flash memory or you own computer incase this happens again and you can just nuke and pave it with a real os rather then the modified crap Compaq throws on
