I agree and don't they already have a linux OS called Android. I wouldn't expect it to be much different then that.
I don't see what the fuss is about.

A OS full of ad's.
Google makes me nervous, I don't use it as much anymore. You have a private conversation with someone using gmail or another service and you receive an ad referencing something you have mentioned in casual conversation. Its weird.
I don't no....I think sometimes we trust Google to much but I may be wrong.

If it will be loaded with ADs then the success rate for it would be very low. I don't use gmail so I don't know anything about what you mentioned. Any freebie email account is loaded with ADs to compensate for the cost of giving you a free service.

I understand that...the way in which they determine what Ads you get is the sketchy part.

I have friends that love Google apps, they are all excited about this Google wave thing that's coming out soon.

Given that there main source of revenue is from ADs we can only hope that the current business model not carried over to the OS but If its going to be free its going to be loaded like you said.

Small, cheap, light, runs "office".....say, if Chrome OS can run "office compatible" apps, and if they can keep it nice and cheap, then I'm in. After all, I only plan to keep each netbook for 2 years before the trade in. So if the OS is cheap, that drops the price. I can game on my Win7 tower at home.

This is my main beef with smartphones that carry propriety operating systems. my htc pro will do everything a netbook will, minus the larger screen, though the small screen is VERY high resolution for the size, so its not so bad.

If they can set up a nice development community to code APPs for the OS, it could be a really feature rich OS

I'm concerned about some of the privacy issues, which means that I will likely not use it. I don't like the idea of Google deciding they don't like something on my computer and fixing it for me.

google has kill-switches? since when?

personally, i don't get all the paranoia about privacy(especially against google)...do you honestly believe you're special to be singled out by a huge corporation with millions of users? unless you're genuinely doing something illegal, you're just a number to them.

its all automated lol. trust me, if you're embarrassed by a computer reading all your crap, you should probably stick to pen and paper which you can burn after reading.

lol, ya,, an OS with ads would be horrendous. although i wonder if they would just force you to(/heavily insist that you) use google search(and wherever else they have ads) to recuperate their money that way.
