Hrmmm are they trying to be funny with the "94 varients" line? Following the link shows 7, and I believe we saw something in the last month about that "3 applications only" being gone.

If they're half right, we'll probably only see 2 or 3 available to the public.

It'll be interesting to see the pricing on these. If they're not absolutely cracked, then it might be a good time to pick up some MS stock. :)

edit: Maybe I should do some digging in the old Vista threads to see when I predicted MS would have a replacement ready to hit the streets....

I think this will be the first time I actually buy an OS. I've received all my OSes through school, and now that school is over, I'm going to have to fork some money over. However, I wouldn't mind because I've been extremely happy with Windows 7 and would actually ALMOST pay for a retail version.

Heh... AFAIK the "planned" release for a Vista replacement was always no earlier than late 2010 so this is actually a full year prior to their estimate, and their estimates are usually a year worth of vapourware aren't they? :)

If the Wiki is correct then the full release of Vista was jan 2007. 2.5 years to release what looks like a mature stable OS is pretty damn good. :)

I am finally using the Windows 7 RC1 and I am not impressed at all honestly. Still seems quite buggy and lots of issues for me. I'm ready to go back to Vista already.

OEM has to ship with the hardware it's going to run on. The OEM license is non-transferable, so if the system gets replaced.. so does the OEM license. Technically, the distributor who builds your computer must install the OS before you take it out the door and affix the COA (certificate of authenticity) to the side of the computer case. Retail can be transfered from machine to machine tho... so long as only one machine is using the software at a time. As you probably know tho.. retail does cost more.
