Default Scanner program for Vista

Hi all. My CanoScan scanner just found its way out from under the metaphorical rubble, and is in use once again, to support my habit of drawing and uploading to the interwebz. However, since it's last use, I have moved on to bigger and badder things, namely a new computer and Windows Vista (versus XP that I used before). As such, the scanning program won't install because it's only compatible with Windows XP and lower Windows versions... The driver is installed okay, as annotated by the minute long calibration tests the thing performs every time I start up my computer. I just can't scan anything because I have no viable program that can utilize a scanner.

Does anyody know of any programs that I can try? Freeware is definitely preferred, but not necessary... I'm sure I can get a hold of any program somehow

Thanks much appreciated! I'll even showcase a sketch or two as some twisted way of saying thanks for anyone who helps me

Can you try the canoscan gearbox for a different scanner that works with Vista? My 4200F works flawlessly in both Vista and W7.
search for
CanoScan Toolbox Ver. 4.6.1.2 (Windows Vista/Vista64)

on their site
Canon Canada Inc. - Customer Support

Sorry it wouldn't let me link to the download.

thanks for the updated driver; but i told you already the driver is installed. What I need is a program that can deal with scanning. When I press the 'scan' button on the scanner this is what I get:

You need a program that can acquire from a Twain source which Photoshop and even possibly Gimp can do.

Yeah, i figured that out the hard way >__< I'm using Fireworks MX for now until i get a hold of Gimp.

Thanks for the help guys :P

And, as promised:

(Yes i know; my art needs improvement)

It's a sketchup of a character design i'm working on; but this is outdated as of tonight as I redesigned the chick's appearance. She's a psycho-esque twentysomething who is very good with her hands (especially dual-wielding small firearms). Her codename is 'Handjob,' lol. It's ironic because the character doesn't like men...

Under Vista, go to Start->Windows Fax and Scan . You don't even have to enter 'Accessories' either, or any other image editing software.

Windows fax and scan doesn't recognize my Canon (twain source ) scanner. The canoscan toolbox is the program that interfaces with the driver and whatever editing program you use.
