i've always used Winamp for that instead. It comes bundled with a OutputToWav plug-in that works like a charm. and winamp is free so it would suit one of the two requirements.

yes i agree that's what i use. but this guy knows nothing of computers and he does it this way so. i am going to tell him to use winamp and he'll be like i have to learn a new program.
Get this he wanted me to dual boot 98 and xp and i am trying to tell him it has no support for new software but he does not care he just wants it so he can rip music. probem is the last time he had it set up that way it would screw up all the time so.

lol wtf? Dualboot 98? Who in their right mind does that...

Set it up for him in a VM if it really wants to use 98.

dual booting 98 and XP on the same drive is a good way to kill a drive fast. NTFS and FAT don't play nice together. I almost had a hard drive get refused RMA because it had a windows 2000 NTFS partition and a win98 FAT32 partition.
