If you don't go to bad places, download stuff you shouldn't or click on every pop up there is no real need for A/V. Windows firewall and my router can and will stop everything in my PC since I do none of the above.

I agree - I don't know why so many techs recommend AVG - Just because it has alleged good detection rate for VIRUSES doesn't mean it's a good one to use - There are far better ones than AVG that are well balanced to detect 100% of viruses in the wild, a larger number of trojans, malware, scripts, etc...... AVG does miss in that area, a lot......

@ SKYMTL: Another happy AVIRA customer here - This is the one I would reocmmend - a little on the expensive side - but company gives out FREE 3 month or more licenses, FULL uncrippled versions for you to try, and I was convinced the first week - It's interface is great, loads up much faster than Norton, can't even compare, VERY regular updates, sometimes hourly, very high detection rate for malware, script and other threats, that most other antivirus programs miss and it has excellent reviews on lab tests / Avcomparative, etc.

I now use AVIRA Premiuim Security Suite, with firewall - Ok it's price tag is a little steep BUT well worth it !

I use it alongside Spyware Doctor - I would recommend Spyware Doctor & SpySweeper

Also AVIRA is fully supported in VISTA both 32 and 64bit.

Kaspersky Internet Security and my router.

There was a time I only used my router and truth be told, I am pretty sure I could still get away with it as I have not really been in any position to be thanking my lucky stars for Kaspersky. But it's light enough, has great config options and does a fine job. And 3 licenses for $50 is a good deal imo.

NOD32 since the first RC of XP x64 (think it was the only AV available for XP 64bit at the time)

NOD32 2.7 here. Only AV that doesn't annoy the piss out of me.

But like others said.. you don't really need one.
