Default open source program for webcam video capture

I have looked everywhere and I can't find anything to capture video from my webcam!

VLC media player can stream video from a webcam into a file. Just go Media>Convert/Save, then select the "capture device" tab and select your webcam, click "Convert/Save". Then you'll get a window where you can choose what format you want and everything.
