Default New system build - stick with xp or upgrade to vista?

I'm about to start building a brand new system from scratch (new motherboard, processor, etc.) and what with all the rumors of Windows 7 coming out mid to late 2009, I was wondering if I should upgrade to vista now or stick with xp until Windows 7 comes out

Why seriously bother asking this question.

Ugh going to start another forum debate oh boy!

50% say XP
50% say Vista.

You choose your own self please and thank you.

If you've already got XP don't go out and buy Vista. Wait until Windows 7 is out.

ohhh...sorry....I didn't know that this was such a hot topic

it's just that vista isn't exactly cheap and I was wondering if people thought that Windows 7 might be faster and use less resources

People like me don't like Vista or Windows 7 and think its just a bad marketing ploy to get people to use a fancy and pretty OS and not care about overall performance of their machine.

well, I mean in 6-8 months it's gonna be vista or windows 7 anyways, it's not like I have a choice

unless you're a fan of OSX or linux, but I'm not really interested in a mac and linux seems kinda out there

Off Topic: you must've had a good laugh with that Mojave ploy

What you talking about? Windows XP will still work just fine in 6-8 months.

The only reason anyone has to use Vista/Win7 is for DX10 which hasn't been proven to do anything.

You're saying that the ONLY reason to upgrade to vista/win7 is DX10?

so there's no added functionality? I mean, having an enhanced UI, or, "fancy and pretty OS" is not necessarily a bad thing

I'm guessing people like yourself and others are serious games and/or professionals, but what do you think of vista/win7 for the average consumer?

that is, school stuff, light gaming, music, movies, web browsing etc.
