No doubt in my mind that Windows 7 is a priority at M$ due to the bad rep Vista now has. While I like Vista, it really does not do much more for me than XP ever did... found XP SP2 to be reliable, and much of the pretty graphics I could add on myself. I find Vista as reliable with the pretty graphics already added on. No real extra goodies in that OS for me, but that does not mean I hate Vista...I am more upset at companies that tried to fleece me for proper Vista driver support they refused to deliver (ie. Creative Labs for my sound card, Lexmark for my printer).

As for adding the extra eye candy to an OS I have no problem with additional computer resources being devoted to this. We upgrade our graphics cards all the time to get extra eye candy in our games so our OS and other software are fair game as well. If I can turn off the stuff I don't want thats great too. I appreciate not running my 3GHZ Quad core machine on a Windows 95 GUI.

We've heard all of these Vista vs Windows 7 arguments when XP came out. XP is just a fancier version of Win2K.

Let's all go back to Win2K because it benches faster than XP!!!!
Actually my Best friend uses Windows 200 for that very reason lol. Yup he has a $2000 machine on Windows 2000. He hates XP for some reason. I am dead serious.

Anyways Again why are people so against an OS looking good? I don't freaking care if the OS had DX10 as a requirement if it made it look freaken cool. Anyways the task bar in Windows 7 not only looks good it FUNCTIONS way better then XP's task bar. Just use Internet Explorer 8 for example. When you have more than one tab open it adds a small sliver beside the icon in the task bar to show that you have extra tabes or windows open. The preview of windows is very helpfull and you can now close windows without maximizing them. On the far right of the task bar it is less clutered like for all the usb devices are organized into one icon group. I don't want to go into the probably hundreds of new fuctionalities that 7 has over XP but those are just the few I caught right off the bat. Also did you not hear me. Windows 7 automatically installed my wireless cards driver. Something that XP doesn't do. Also Vista's/7's installer is SO much more better in function and looks.

I will just want to make it clear. Why do people buy cars that look better then cars that are lets say more fuel effiecent or more horse power?

I'm considering making the switch atm...
hows the GUI?..... what about ram usage?

can you post or pm me a screen of the GUI? theres a lot of junk online so I dont know whats what...

I'm seriously hoping for a major performance upgrade over Vista and XP...
To me, Vista was like Windows ME.... just a preview of what can really be done with the future OS's

Actually just took a look around the various forums and such for information on the new taskbar in Windows 7 and looks pretty useful actually...

I've had it for about 2 days now and it's not too bad at all really. I never did like Vista and still don't, but Window's 7 hasn't really pissed me off too much yet :) Still not a fan of how there are tons of links and new windows to make any changes to the system. Seems more convoluted than ever. Maybe I just need to get used to where everything is though. Most programs are working fine and haven't had any driver problems so far. It's really quick and doesn't feel bloated at all. Definitely a step in the right direction, especially considering what it's based on.

And it does look better, way better. The xp desktop was not designed for the high resolution lcd's we run these days and the icons and fonts just don't cut it anymore.
I can't stand cleartype and its the first thing I turn off.
I can't stand Aero its the second thing I turn off.

have any of you guys had any compatibility issues as of yet? like as an example, would rocketdock work in W7.
How is driver compatibility, like I'd assume all the major drivers are supported out of box, but has anyone attempted to use the newest nVidia drivers with it?
As well, how customizable is the gui? As for the desktop, can the gadgets from vista's sidebar be used?

[quote=no_pulse;133469]I have to agree with enaberif about Windows 98. I miss the mem usage in Vista. I have 8gb and it says its using 22% of mem, like WTF!

....from all the useless services it loads up at startup - After vliting VISTA, my mem usage is usually under 16% ! You cantrim down up to 300MB memory usage !
Also vliting VISTA and creating a new install DVD, you can shrink your 6-8GB install down to under 700MB ! and cut install times by over 60% !
