Dunno about 16 bit but it has that feature with Vista RTM compatibility mode as well. Had to run most of the driver installs in that mode or i got a 'These drivers were not made for the OS' error.

Anyhow, I'm curious to know, can Windows 7 run legacy 16bit installers ? Does Windows 7 have compatibility mode execution like in XP where you right click an EXE and can choose to run in Win95/98/NT/XP/2k compat mode ? Still have my old CLIP ART CD from IMSI, and it uses a 16bit installer wondering if it would work...... :)
Compatibility is there:
Win 95/98/ME
Win NT 4.0
Win2k/XP SP2
Windows Server 2003 SP1
Vista

well, first impressions...

After fighting feverously to get my damned Xfi drivers to work, I decided to say eff it and use the onboard audio untill Creative gets off their asses and releases some Windows 7 Capable drivers.

Ram useage is impecable. with the same install setup as vista, Windows 7 uses 850-900mb of ram compared to vista at 1500-1800mb of ram. the difference is VERY noticable, even when running a x86 os.

Compatability doesnt seem to be an issue.... love how almost all drivers work out of the box...

I had zero issues with creative x-fi drivers. I'm using the xreme gamer. Installed the drivers, console launcher and alchemy.

First, get the 2.18_0008 drivers, 2.60.35 Console and 1.20.04 Alchemy from creative:
Creative Worldwide Support

Save to disk, right click on the install exe and under compatibility choose to run in vista compatibility mode. then run the file. I did drivers, console then alchemy, no issues and I have full functionalty, even 5.1 in games.

before you even installed the drivers, did the os even awknowledge there was a sound card? mine shows up under "multimedia Audio Controler"

I'll give your idea a shot.... hopefully it'll work

nope-
Says "unable to detect device on system" so the sound card isnt even being recognized.... hmmmm...

I tried a different PCI slot, and nothing. I think its possible that Windows 7 doesnt even recognize a Xfi Xtreme Audio card?.... because I'm at a loss,

Maybe the pci controller driver inst installed correctly? dunno lol.

Ive got it installed now, couldnt wait for the x64 version. EVERYTHING worked out of the box for me. Wireless, video card, bluetooth, all my onboard stuff. It even had my tv detected as being hooked up with component and turned on. Really like being able to switch the keyboard layout BEFORE setup. Its such a pain having dvorak and having to enter in cd keys and other info when ms assumes you have a qwerty layout.

The xtreme audio card uses the old audigy chip, not the x-fi chip. I had the exact same issue with an old audigy card and xp, where the drivers would not recognize the installed card. Look on the creative site for the fix, I forget what it was.

Hmmm, I also just noticed that DX11 is included with the 7000 build...

I know that there are no games or any real application that will use DX11 yet, but does anyone have any idea when the first DX11 games are due?
