The idea idea behind "lossless" is no compression.

The second you compress an audio file its no longer lossless.

Zipping a flac file would be considered compression. The flac file would still be lossless. That may not be what he's talking about though.

I have not just heard about FLAC, I have been using it for a while now, with my sound card and headphones I do notice a difference. This is not for my mp3 player, this is for my computer music listening enjoyment.

But thanks for the suggestions so far and see what works.

Sorry but headphones will not be able to properly reproduce the sound.

But if your still insistent and want to waste space then follow the links provided.

Whether or not any headphones he uses can completely reproduce every bit of the original music in lossless form doesn't mean he can't get a better reproduction from a flac source over low bit rate mp3. Since he's asking for ripping software more information on the specifics of what he can rip files to specifically might be more helpful. (what the default lame bit rate is, what a good quality bit rate is)

Sorry enaberif but now you are just talking out of your ass and you basically have no clue as to what you are talking about.

From Wiki.. (Free Lossless Audio Codec - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

"FLAC reduces bandwidth and storage requirements without sacrificing the integrity of the audio source. A digital audio recording (such as a CD track) encoded to FLAC can be decompressed into an identical copy of the audio data. Audio sources encoded to FLAC are typically reduced in size 40 to 50 percent (46% according to their own comparison).[2]"
