Default Shareware/Freeware gems

This is a cool little utility that converts all kinds of units. Its one of those things that you get used to having around and miss it when its not there.

Our Rating: (Excellent)
Convert is the only unit conversion tool you`ll ever need. It includes fast and simple conversions for distance, temperature, volume, time, speed, mass, power, density, pressure, energy and many others. In addition, you can also add your custom conversions. The program comes as standalone file and does not need to be installed - just unzip and run.

Thanks for this.
Not only is it great to see some suggestions on freeware, but I've been threatening to make a new software thread, this should be the kick in the butt I need to actually make it..... :)

Just bought a new terrabyte HD and want to be able to do a painless swap with your old hard drive?

Download copying and migrating software for transfering all your data to a new HDD

Migrate Easy has a 15 day free trial that works like a charm!!!! (If it's going to take you more than 15 days, you need to clear up some free time before you blow a gasket.... :) ).

I've tried many of the freeware/shareware HD system tools and this is the first one I've come across that actually worked for transfering over to a new system boot disk.

I've been using Daemon tools as my "virtual CD" of choice for years now......

THE DAEMONS HOME

Not only does it work well, these folks are quick to react to new schemes designed to disable the program.

I got tired over the years of needing to either replace the "game disk" or worse my CDrom because of over use, and didn't want to go through the motions of finding "No CD" hacks to play my games.

Not really shareware/freeware but I couldn't figure out where to put this so it ended up here.... :)

This is an absolutely amazing demo of HDR!!!!!

rthdribl - Real-Time High Dynamic Range Image-Based Lighting 1.2 -

If you click on the screen while it's running it will stop the action and you can change your aspect view by holding the left button down and moving the mouse.....

Pretty cool!!!!! I really miss the early days of the `net when this kind of stuff was commonplace.

Paint.net beta 3.10 has just been released.

Paint.NET - Free Photo Editing Software for Windows

I've been using this program for over a year and found it to cover all of my needs for graphic / photo manipulation.

Not as feature rich as something like Photoshop, but that means it doesn't have quite as steep a learning curve.
