AntiVirus Software: AGV vs Norton

I use Spybot S&D. It works great.

I think there was a spambot that got onto this forum, spamming a link that appears to be Spybot S&D's site, but wasn't.

Super Antispyware is actually pretty decent for a freebie. I wouldn't run the active protection, but the scanner finds a lot of stuff Spybot and Adaware miss. Actually, I don't even run Spybot or Adaware anymore, just Super Anti-Spyware and Spyware Terminator. Rogue Remover has also been recommended to me by a fellow techie, but I've yet to try it out.

If I suspect a problem with someones machine and whatever antivirus-spyware they are running detects nothing I go to f-secure and run their on-line scanner.

F-Secure is a company that watches for new viruses and monitors the spread. AVG, Norton and the likes actually pay these guys for info.

Interesting! I've been using AVG Free for years and it has served me well. Much faster than Norton in my experience. I'll definitely check out NOD32 as it seems to be regarded very highly.

I'll second (or third) Super Antispyware. By far the best virus/spyware/malware cleaner I've used in ages. I can't count the number of machines I've had to fix because the Antivirus 2008/2009 virus had taken over the computer and Spybot S&D (which was installed) didn't do anything when run. Frankly Spybot isn't close to what it used to be. I wouldn't be surprised if they had an opt-out option like most of the good programs ended up doing (Ad-Aware comes to mind) and have now become useless.
