Default Dell goes with Ubuntu

"Dell is trying a second time to sell personal computers with Linux preinstalled, this time using the up-and-coming Ubuntu version of the open-source operating system.
At the end of May, the No. 2 PC maker will begin selling some consumer-focused laptop and desktop models with Ubuntu's new "Feisty Fawn" version of Linux installed, Dell spokesman Kent Cook said. The company announced the Linux move on Tuesday on its IdeaStorm site, launched in February to gather feedback directly from customers about what they want."

They could pick a less lame distro though :-)

I understand why they chose it, it just sucks since it offers nothing exciting to it's users. It's only that a bunch of followers jump on it like it's hotcakes.

I agree. And at least they don't act like it's the only version of Linux out there, like most Ubuntu fanbois do.

I think there's supposed to be good support for it, or something.

Well Ubuntu has sorta become a Windows of Linux. There is a huge community behind it which really helps its name out. Yes there are other linux distros all with their own community, but nothing is as big and global at this point as Ubuntu imho.

That's because a billionaire backs it. If it wasn't him who began and pushed Ubuntu, it would have gone nowhere. It's just too bad he didn't use his money to actually add something new into the mix, not just some brown scheme.
