Best DVD Burning/Ripping Software?

I've come to the conclusion that Nero is simply bloatware, now that it is past version 6. Are there any other good alternatives out there, namely to put .avi and .mpeg (video formats) on to DVD? Also good at CD burning too?

To put videos onto DVD, VSO ConvertXtoDVD works great for me.

i been usin winavi forever now for converting and burning movies and it works flawless for me.takes about 20 mins to convert and about 5 to burn.

cmac that's a very interesting program! But all it does is convert a movie to dvd format, so how do you burn it to dvd?

EDIT: I figured it out using the program, but it only lets me burn at x1 speed? Or is that always max?

EDIT2: It turns out it failed burning on me right at the beginning, so nothing was actually burned to disc. Is that a problem with my DVDs or the software? I have a Pioneer DVR-216DBK.
