Default Ubuntu eee is out for the Asus Eee PC's

I installed it on my 701 4GB and it takes 1.9GB on the SSD.

Only one issue, the repos were set to Canadian servers but were not working so I switch to main server.

Looks pretty nice...

Wonder if it'll work on other netbooks?

This is just the "netbook remix" tweaked with the proper drivers for the Eee? Ubuntu is pushing this real hard and targeting as many laptop/netbook systems as they can.

So what is "excellent" about it?

I wasn't planning on it Fred ...
Want to make sure all is as it should be before tinkering I mean breaking

On another note, I had trouble connecting to my wireless network with it yesterday.
After a reboot it connected but things were not as perfect as the night before.

After searching it seems that some have this issue or can't connect at all.

Anyways, I have Mandriva 2008.1 spring (gnome) running off a 16GB sdhc since April and all is well with that install if ever ...

Hey I found this yesterday

it's a video from geekintouch where they show one of the Mandriva lab where they work on the newest netbook (some of which are not even release yet ) to ensure compatibility with the newest usb wireless adapter. the reporter is amaze by the user friendliness of the distro.

OK it if in french but hey after all Mandriva is a french distro

A+

I installed it the other day on my eee 1000H and had compiz working. But I had to activate the Ubuntu advanced mode and install CCSM (compiz config settings manager). I don't think compiz would work in the netbook remix mode.
Compiz was amazing! All the effects worked and the graphics were nice too.
