My System Specs

Default New Build

This new build will be mostly for gaming, a little flash projects here and there, and possibly watching movies. I don't have a lot of money to spend on since i just got a part time job and i think i get like umm .. 8.20 an hour? So anyways, i been saving up enough money and my birthday is coming soon, so i was thinking i should finally buy a new PC. I probably buy all my parts from ncix since they can do a pre assembly. Since this is the first time i bought a PC from parts i choose im not really 100% sure i should try building it until im more comfortable tinkering in a PC. If anyone has any advice or things i should look out for then that would be awesome!

Case:Coolermaster CM 690 Mid Tower Black ATX Case 5X5.25 5X3.5INT No PS Front USB Sound Firewire & eSATA

CPU heatsink:Xigmatek HDT-S1283 Direct Touch 3 Heatpipe Heatsink AM2 LGA775 S754 S939 S940 W 120MM PWM Fan

CPU:Intel Core 2 Duo E8400 Dual Core Processor LGA775 3.0GHZ Wolfdale 1333FSB 6MB Retail

RAM:Mushkin XP PC2-8000 Redline 4GB 2X2GB DDR2-1000 CL5-5-5-12 240PIN Dual Channel Memory Kit

Hard drive:Western Digital Caviar SE16 640GB SATA2 7200RPM 16MB Hard Drive OEM 3YR MFR Warranty

Motherboard:Gigabyte EP45-DS3L ATX LGA775 P45 DDR2 PCI-E 2PCI SATA2 HD Sound 2GBLAN Motherboard

PSU: Corsair HX520 CMPSU-520HX 520W ATX Triple 12V 40A Continuous 24PIN ATX Modular 120MM Power *IR-$15*

GPU:HIS Radeon HD 4850 625MHZ 512MB 1.986GHZ GDDR3 PCI-E Dual DVI-I HDCP HDTV Out Video Card *IR-$15*

Mouse:Logitech MX518 GAMING-GRADE Optical Mouse 1600-DPI USB SILVER-BLACK

Now for my questions. Will the corsair 520 be able to power a 4850 crossfire? Has anyone had experience with that MX518 mouse? Is there a GOOD reason for be to go with the P45 rather then the P35? Is spending the extra $$ worth getting the WD640, im not really concerned how much storage i got, is the speed of the HD really worth it then getting a 500GB? I will be probabbly be using my old 17' until i get my 24', will there be a huge frame drop from 17' to 24'?

Total of everything i picked out: 1,109.40$ before taxes.
note that i haven't price matched (i know i should but im going to guess its gonna reduce it by maybe 50-150$?) I wish i could just pick it up from Ncix, but i think im currently too far to even consider that.
My Budget is around 1100-1200, (1200 is kind of streching it, i hope i get money and not underwear for my birthday )

I think your build looks nice. The power supply might do, I'm not sure. I really think the 620HX or TX650 would be better. If money is that tight I'd recomend buying a P35 if it will save you enough over the P45 that you could afford the more powerful PSU.

I also recommend you build it yourself. You save some cash and it is not as hard as you think. I just built my first and had a blast. The 2 Gigabyte MBs I have, have very easy to follow manuals. The trickiest part can be getting a heatsink attached, just read users experiences on the forums to gain any tips before installing it. If you are really unsure you could get them to build it but you are missing out if you do. Just my opinion of course ;).

Hmm , i'm still debating in my mind if i should build it or not. My biggest concern is if i do something wrong and then it kills the whole system

Peace of mind is worth the $50 NCIX charges for assembly.
And you have a nice rig; don't worry about your choices of parts. As for the PSU, I'd upgrade to the HX620W to be on the safe side for 4850 CF.

The Little Board That Could? Works like a charm. Just slap a fan near the Northbridge heatsink, if you're going for high-FSB overclocks. We are a few here that have that board and it's great. Go for it. And swap that PSU.

Welcome to HWC. Don't skimp on PSU. P35 does fine for gaming and what you want to do.
