Budget Gaming Build

I'm planning on building a rig including a 22IN monitor for $1000 or less before taxes, MIRs, and environmental/recycling fees. I don't need a HDD, OS, DVD drive, or sound card. I'll be ordering everything from NCIX, and price matching whenever possible. Right now I'm strongly leaning towards a 4850, E8400, and CM 690. So far I'm thinking of right now:

CPU: E8400 : $169.99
Video Card: Diamond 4850 : $169.99
Case: CM 690 : $71.28
PSU: 500w OCZ StealthXStream : $57.75 before $20 MIR
Monitor: Samsung 2253bw: 269.99 (+$14 for express coverage)
------
At $753 without ram or a mobo.
Anyone care to critique my current build? or suggest a mobo and 2gb of ram?
I won't need a xfire board, or more than a few pci slots. And I'm only planning on doing a light OC on the e8400.

Thanks.

First, welcome to the forums.

Second:

CPU: OK.
Video card: OK.
Case: OK.
PSU: I'd rather go for the Corsair VX550W.
Monitor: OK (I have the same and it's awesome)

Board: Gigabyte GA-EP45-DS3L. Cheap, stable, very easy to oc. NCIX.com - Buy Gigabyte EP45-DS3L ATX LGA775 P45 DDR2 PCI-E 2PCI SATA2 HD Sound 2GBLAN Motherboard - GA-EP45-DS3L In Canada..
Ram: Mushkin Redlines. NCIX.com - Buy Mushkin XP PC2-8000 Redline 4GB 2X2GB DDR2-1000 CL5-5-5-12 240PIN Dual Channel Memory Kit - 996593 In Canada..

3.0charlie is bang on with his recommendations. But if you're going to do even a slight overclock you might as well get a cpu cooler as it is hard to control the need for speed once you start ocing. Should stay on budget.

The board seems good, but that's a bit more than I'd like to pay for ram. I was thinking of something like NCIX.com - Buy Mushkin HP PC2-6400 HP2-6400 2GB 2X1GB DDR2-800 CL4-5-4-11 240PIN DIMM Dual Channel Memory Kit - 996533 In Canada. and maybe a NCIX.com - Buy Silverstone Element ST50EF-PLUS 500W ATX12V 24PIN Power Supply W/120MM Fan Active PFC 80PLUS RoHS - ST50EF-PLUS In Canada.
as the psu since it's gotten some great reviews, and after a PM it's about as much as the corsair 550w is after the MIR. How does a Katana 2 sound as a heatsink? NCIX.com - Buy Scythe Katana 2 CPU Cooler Heatpipe Heatsink LGA775 AM2 S478 S754 S939 S940 W/ 100MM 1500RPM Fan - SCKTN-2000 In Canada. the reviews seem to be positive and it's only $25 with a fan.

The HP2-6400 ram sticks are great: OK.
The Silverstone ST50EF too: OK.
But the HSF? Nope. Go for the OCZ Vendetta II instead.
