Hm the problem is he wants to shop at that specific shop and not do anythign online.
Anyways they ahve Visiontek 4870 for $279 after $20 MIR, not a bad price, and the BFG GTX 260 overclocked is at $269 after $30 MIR, so would that balance anything uot?
Anyways i told him he should get a P35 or P45 board, since those are readily available and much better, and he's starting to take my suggestions, however he wants to double check everything with the guys at the store.

Gigabyte GA-EP35-DS3L

Well-regarded, mature BIOSes, only about $10-15 more expensive than the 630i, and if necessary, he'll never lack for other users online who have experience with using/troubleshooting the board.

You know what's going to happen! He is putting the trust on the shop instead of you! The guys at the store will convince that they have better service and warranty. Afterall they are trying to make a living!

i would to have 260 oc for 269 than 4870 for 279

- 4780 has very little OC ability than 260
- bfg offer 90 days step up program + lifetime warranty ( except OC and heatsink swap)
- mobo is nvidia

honestly.. 4870 is very slightly better than NON-oced gtx260

"The guys at the shop"??!?!?!?

Tell him to trust the people who have no vested interest in what he buys and are trying to help him get the most for his money.

I also third (or is it fourth) the idea of getting the P35/P45 and the 4870.

5th on the p35/p45 and the 4870, we do this for fun and not for his money. But if he wants to you know... I would take it.

Get your friend to read that. Then make him read it again. If needed slap him lightly on the back of the head and make him read it again!

I just finished building a computer, it is a P35 and I just got a new motherboard today for a 2nd computer, it is a P45. I don't make a lot of money so I need to spend wisely. I chose these for myself because they are good choices!

If he still does not listen to so many nice people trying to help give him a little slap for me.

Seriously, cheap and good - P35 or spend a bit more and get a little newer - P45. NVidea 630 - ew!

One time...I couldn't save a friend from the darkside. He was as stubborn as your friend. He just wouldn't listen and was drawn in by a shiny case and promotional tag lines.

*sob*

He...he...he went with....dun, Dun, DUN...MDG!

They must be!!
Anywyas i made him a new build and hopefully he goes with it.
He didn't like how ht CM690 looked so he decided to go with Antec 900.
Also for CPU choice, i convinced him to get the e8500(e8400's out of stock, otherwise we would have gotten that) w/ GA EP35-DS3L &Arctic Freezer 7, and GPU he's still sticking with the GTX 260, because of the fact it's pre-OCed, and the 4870's price tag is slightly too steep @ $310.
