God... the wait is killing me. They had to replace the motherboard and then the RAM! Now they're testing the dual 4870s playing a few hours of Crysis on "high".

.... well, at least when it comes back it should be throughly tested.

Rough time man....I would pay the extra for the CPU upgrade if it was still an option or even up your E8400 for a E8600 if its possible....mind you your setup is pretty sound you could always OC it and get more bang for you buck.

I almost made the switch. But for another $220.00, it did not sound like I'd see much if any improvement in games. Plus NCIX said it would have been another 10 days of testing as they'd have to start over again. ...... maybe after the new Intel Nehalems are out for a year or so I can pick up a QX9770 cheap :)

Well, its here, and it doesn't work. The sound card is not recognised, and windows says there are no drivers for the video cards????!!! Well, make that card, as it only seems to be detecting one of them. How can this bee after all the testing done by NCIX??!! It has now beeen two months since I placed this order, and all I have is $2,000.00 web browser and a headache.

After shipping you should open the case up and just check all connections. If you have Crossfire or SLI you should check those (that) connection too. Check the cards are firmly seated, plugs are all plugged in tight etc. If it worked fine there, it should work fine in your house.

Not sure what's going on, all the connections look solid. I tried to install drivers for the sound card, but it gives me an error that the power supply cable is not attached (which it is). Today I also noticed that the esata port was missing from the back, because they did not attach/hook up the bracket with that port (it's sitting in a bag, unopened in the motherboard box).

Well, I attached the eSata port (I'm not a total retard). Then, after another long session with NCIX support, we got the soundcard working (not sure how, I re-seated it twice and no effect, but after messing with the video cards, it came alive??). But we could not get the system to recognise both video cards. it appears that there is somehow an issue with the second PCI Express slot. So..... back it goes again. This means it will be another month (a week to travel each way, and 10 business days or so of testing)... that will be three months from when I ordered. Man, I'll be almost out of date before I get it.

:(

Makes no sense to me. If the machine runs in the shop for NCIX it should run in your house. Unacceptable that you are without the machine you ordered for so long too. But, having worked on various electronic equipment over the years I know that it is hard to fix something that does not seem broken when I run it. How could it run hours of Crysis and then ship and have a problem with the PCIe slot?

I hope you get some kind of resolution out of this return. I would be asking them to call me and tell me what is going on when it gets back. And make sure they know what you did when you received the machine so they can try and duplicate the errors. I am guessing all you did was unpack and set it up, but I don't know for sure.

Good luck.

That's all, just open and set it up. Maybe something got bumped in transit. If you see the older posts in this thread, the first time I got it it would not output any video signal at all. It was tested before they sent it, but ended up going back the first time for a new mother board and new RAM. Maybe shipping a PC from BC to Ontario just isn't advisable...

They know all that I did trying to resolve the issue, as I was on the phone with their tech the whole time.

If I was going to wait 3 months to get the PC, I could have bought a better CPU at the newer prices, and bought a 4870x2.... or two of them.
