The XtremeMusic is a true X-Fi. The XtremeAudio is not. Don't get confused. The XtremeMusic was discontinued rather early though...

Ace44, are you sure your ready for a DFI board? Going from a Dell to DFI is a massive step. The DFI BIOS has tons and tons of settings. Might be something to consider.

I'm not sure you really need the X48 chipset unless you have plans of running Crossfire. A board based on the P45 chipset would do fine and cost about $100 less.

I prefer Pioneer DVD-RWs, but thats just me.

You might want to consider the Western Digital 640GB hard drive instead as it's supposed to be a pretty fast drive as it uses dual 320GB platters. Also happens to be only $90 right now.

Otherwise it looks like a pretty solid list you did.

You could get G.SKILL, OCZ or Corsair RAM instead as they all basically use the same chips. And if you are getting 4GB, just know that you need a 64bit OS to fully use it. I'd recommend Vista Home Premium x64 or Ultimate x64.

Oh and make sure you get a decent heatsink for the CPU as well. The Xigmatek HDT- S1283 seems like a great choice.

great! But the only problem is that I'm torn between going with either ati or nvidia. I'm not sure if I should get 2 4850's/1 4870 or get 1 9800 gtx in that case do I bother with dfi board?

I'd go with one 4850 unless your running a really high resolution. It should run anything you can throw at it at 1680x1050 or less, and if you start to slow down later on you can just pick up another one for crossfire goodness.
