If I were you....I would go with a single 9800GX2....It's a darn good card.... Also, go with a single 4GB kit of RAM, like Mushkin or G-Skill, the 1000MHZ stuff. Better stability overall. (and the room for 4 more GB later....)
I'm also not a fan of wireless mice, but to each their own.... Other than that it looks like a solid build

mmm if this were me I would-
Drop the quad for an E8400,
Go with an X38 Asus Maximus
Get a GX2 instated of 2 8800GT's as they can be bought for 479 now on special..or I would wait a few weeks for the newer ATI/Nvidia cards.
Switch the RAM for the 2*2gb Redline kit~$130
Perhaps step down to Vista 32 bit
Get the 750 silencer quad instead of the modular 1000watt.

oh Vortex got there first----

Vista 64 bit is wonderful, I dont have any problems with it..... And 8GB ram is GREAT.

Kinda contradicting advice...
You tell him to get 4GB of RAM, yet a 32bit OS cannot read all 4GB. He needs to keep 64bit Vista.

I agree with the other advice posted. Get a 9800GX2 or wait about a week or 2 for the new cards. Then you don't need to go with a crappy NVIDIA chipset just because you want to run SLI. A board based on the P45 or X38 or X48 chipset would do nicely IMO.

And I don't really consider the MX Revolution a gaming mouse but to each their own. Might want to check out the G7 if you need wireless.

Yea does sound a bit odd RE RAM and 32 bit but you still get the extra 1.25 which helps.

But if the 64 bit works well enough then go for it-I know someone with it and they seem to have so much grief-but they are cards in SLI and Vortex knows best!

Hey thanks everyone, you guys really are an awesome community!

The reason i went with 2 8800gt is because they are so cheap. You can get 2 of them for just over $300, so about $150 cheaper than the 9800GX2. I figure i'll be able to get a bunch (3-4) of years out of 2 8800's.

Haha my current comp is still using an ATI X800 XL, so you can see I dont upgrade that quickly...

Also, that PS is on sale, and generally got good reviews.

Some of you are really not a fan of the 750i mobo? I have heard nothing but good things about it! I will look into the other options.

One thing i am really considering is changing the ram, like you suggested vortex. 8GB down the road sounds awesome... so I should plan for it now! However, NCIX has a special on these 4-4-4-12 2x1gb sticks right now (its 2gb for $62, which I thought was pretty good.)

Obviously I want to get the best stuff, but if i spend too much... the wife will kill me

Oh, and about the mouse/keyboard - i already have those, i just threw them on there. The MX rev is definitly an aquired taste, but like you said, to each their own.

This PC (including the mouse/keyboard/mouse pad) at NCIX is about $2150, and i really cant go much higher than $2000 (its less than 2k when you take out the mouse/keyboard).

I would like the PC i'm building to last for around 5 years with minimal upgrades... Thoughts?

edit: Oh and in 3-4 years, i would be ok with starting to run some games on medium-ish settings

Forget those guys, that Logitech MX Revolution, the second best thing you’ll ever have in your hand!
