Default Upgrade after 5 years?

Hey guys, long time time no see! :) It's been 2 years, 364 days since my last sign in

I'd just like you guys' .02 on upgrading my GPU's. I still run my SLi GTX570's (5 years old, still running strong) but i'm starting to miss out on games because of no dx12 and low Vram.

Reckon a 6gb gtx1060 is a worthwile upgrade? Save bit and get a 1070 instead? OR, because i don't discharge from army service until december and won't have very good income or much free time until january, be patient and ride on the brand-new-tech wave when the gtx11xx comes out?

Also wondering if it's even worth it running a 23" 1080p monitor, or if i should at least pick up a bigger 2560x1440p monitor? (Probably doing this at some point anyways)
AND if you figure my 2500k wil be able to keep up for another generation?

I haven't been able to keep updated this past year, so i would really appreciate some input

Personally, with the way monitor resolution/sync is going I wouldn't drop coin on anything less than a GTX 1070 if I wanted any kind of future proofing (and/or whatever AMD brings to the table to compete with it), but I'm really not a fan of current pricing so I'm holding off until either the Canadian dollar improves against the US dollar, or pricing of the GTX 1070 starts dropping down to something more along the lines of what we've historically seen third tier consumer cards (excluding titans and/or double gpu cards) selling for.

I really have my doubts that a 1060 or RX 480 is going to feel like an upgrade when compared to your current SLI 570s.

I've just ordered a 1070 switching from a pair of 570s. The 1060 was tempting for the price but I realized that it won't last as much.

Don't forget you (we) ran a pair of 570s for about 5 years now. The 1070 is technically the same grade. If you want to wait another 5 years, get a 1070, nothing under.

We have a similar build, so here's my plan, maybe it'll help you.

Keep my 1080p 60Hz monitor (no hate please). Buy the 1070 (done), then save for a new 1440p 144Hz monitor (currenty aiming at ASUS VG248QE). Then I'll see about changing the mobo + cpu + ram if I have too much money ... oh wait I'm having a baby ... ok I won't change the mobo haha.

Gameplay > Graphics ... oh wait

Food > Gameplay > Graphics > Movies > Sleep > Work

Don't go from GTX570 mid-high tier to a GTX1060 mid tier card. Go with GTX1070. Although if you ain't playing much now, there really isn't a game that requires DX12. I was on a Radeon 5850 till last year after 6 years of good use, but games i started playing like HoTs and Dragon Age and the Witcher 3 just flat out couldn't run well enough so i got a used 660ti to hold out. Now i'm waiting for AMD's next card cause i got a 27" 1440p freesync monitor lol.
