My System Specs

Default My build for renderings

I'm new to the forum and since there's no introductory section I will do so by letting people know about my build from 2010 that I've done minor upgrades since then.

i7 930
Coolermaster Hyper 212 Heatsink
Gigabyte x58-UD3R Rev.1
ATI 5850
G.Skill F3 12800CL9T 2GB x 6
Corsair HX750 (TX750 just died)
Samsung 128 SSD
Assorted HDs for storage

I do some light gaming with the machine. My work involves architectural rendering using 3Ds Max + Vray engine so the rig is primarily use for that purpose.

There is, actually: Welcome New Members

I had a very similar rig, at one time. Yours can hold up for quite some time, with the hardware you have on hand. Only upgrade would be the GPU - and some can be had for dirt cheap on the used market (580s, 6970s).

Welcome in to our little corner of the 'net.

Toss a lil fire pro in there or a quadro if can find it cheap got a solid workstation. Or just about any of the R9's from Amd.

I'm happy with my build now and don't need any more power. At work I'm running a new generation i7 and a Quadro card. But my home build is plenty of power for the freelance work I do. A fire or quadro card for home will be nice, but I don't work on anything TOO complex that would demand it. If anything my next upgrade would probably be for a bigger main SSD. It would be nice to install games into the SSD and have Skyrim load instantly between spaces :)

^^^^^ Thata the ideal scenario and what I run....120 GB SSD for OS and some Apps then a 240 GB SSD for my Steam, Origin and UPlay libraries.

You might want to wait for that Asus Hyper Express thing and if they don't solve the TRIM support for it at launch you can just get 2 Crucial M500 mSATA SSDs as they have excellent ITGC. Welcome to the HWC forum!

Thanks will look into it.

I think my motherboard is acting funny (I've been hearing lots of high-pitch static noise coming from the board). I'd rather not spend the money but I think I'll be forced to upgrade the mobo soon and consequentially the CPU as well :( Will probably upgrade to the i7 4770k when Im forced to upgrade my motherboard.

someone who was building a few weeks ago was saying that the K series processors don't support some features of the chip that are advantages fore rendering and design work. He was saying that 4770 was better fore him than 4770K in this regard.
