So long as the FTP game isn't WoT that isn't a bad build at all.
The APU's appear to be a really good starting point for New builds on a budget like that.

Yeah, that's what I figured. Future upgrade would be drop in GPU and SSD.

Games he wants to play are:

League of Legends, TF2, Soldier Front 2, Crossfire.

Speaking only from LoL I know it will run that just fine. The others, I cannot say as I don't have my own personal demograph on how they run for what settings.

I just know that WoT due to some less than ideal optimizations with Drivers (AMD moreso than NVidia), FPS can vary greatly.
It takes a 3770K and a Pair of 650TI's to give me a constant 60fps in the city.

Wink

Soultribunal - I believe it is a typo and he meant FPS games And I was just going to ask, where is some GFX card ...
It is hard to question it's good price/value ratio: PassMark - AMD A10-6800K APU - Price performance comparison

...however what the grapjic performance is? Sure it should not play Aliens vs Predator, as average this give about 18fps:
Overclock3D :: Review :: AMD A10-6800K Richland Overclocked Review :: Alien vs Predator and Counter-Strike: Source
...while Counter Strike:Source seems to run great at nearly 70fps, and close to 100 when overclocked.

Still, Bioshock at low could be nearly playable at around 30fps:
Overclock3D :: Review :: AMD A10-6800K Richland Overclocked Review :: Bioshock Infinite and Catzilla

...so in the end it is a question if there can be a graphic card (you are currently at 663$ and to 800$ it might fit a nice one...?) that allow for example play of the World of Tanks
Because I'm affraid that sooner or later you will get confronted with this request about this game and the inability to the APU to handle at at decent framerate, especially in higher detail settings.

When there is not much things on screen, even a GFX card in PCI mode can render quite fast

He did list LoL however which is FTP not FPS game, so I am not sure if it is a Typo or he meant both.

FTP is not a typo -- Free To Play.

The APU would be considered a start, and by all accounts delivers playable framerates in most games.

The addition of a discrete GPU in the future would definitely be a great upgrade if this client decides to play more demanding games.

$800 is the upper end of his budget, and would prefer not to hit that. He still needs to buy a mouse/keyboard/speakers on top of that $663, and I still have to tack on my build fee (about $60 or so).

Nice. I'll bring it up with him. Smaller but potentially better quality.
