My System Specs

Default New rig update after 6+ years

My budget is not really limited, but I would like to get the best bang for the buck.

My main intent is gaming. Everything else is secondary. And gaming is the reason I am required to upgrade my 6 year old computer.

Here is what I gathered up til now:
CPU: Intel Core i5 4670K Unlocked Quad Core 3.4GHZ Processor LGA1150 Haswell 6MB Cache Retail
Mobo: MSI Z87-GD65 Gaming ATX LGA1150 Z87 3PCI-E16 4PCI-E1 CrossFireX/SLI SATA3 4K HDMI USB3.0
(alternatively maybe I should just get the GD45 and save 30$?)
RAM: G.SKILL Ripjaws X F3-12800CL9D-8GBXL 8GB 2X4GB DDR3-1600 CL9-9-9-24 Memory
Video: MSI Radeon HD 7950 Twin Frozr III 880MHZ 3GB 1250MHZ GDDR5 DVI HDMI 2xMini
(there is also a deal in the US: PowerColor Radeon HD 7950 3GB Video Card (AX7950 3GBD5-2DHV4) - PCPartPicker, expires on Sunday)
HDD: Samsung 840 Series 250GB 2.5in SATA3 MDX Solid State Disk Flash Drive SSD

I already own in my current rig a TX650 for PSU.

Some thoughts:

For most of these I will prolly buy from NCIX since I don't really know any other stores in Vancouver that has competitive pricing. I would consider crossborder shopping if an offer is really good, but my main concern with that is the warranty and the RMA process.

I am trying to steer away from brands that make RMA or dealing with warranty hard/expensive. brands like Asus, Saphire, etc that do not have RMA centers in Canada or at least US, and which you must pay shipping (tho I believe most make you pay 1 way shipping to them). Therefore I am looking at MSI, Gigabyte and the like.

For RAM I used to go with Corsair or Patriot. But with the ever increasing cost, I am trying to get the best bang for the buck, hence why I picked G.Skill as they are now currently the cheapest.

I know AMD is coming out with the 9000 series. Not sure if maybe I should wait another month or 2 and get the 9950 (or equivalent of 7950). Usually the prices do not drop, and the new releases uses OEM PCB which usually means more modding opportunity to OC.

I would like your input and opinions.
Thanks

On my old Intel E6750 I used stock. I don't believe the CPU will be a bottleneck, especially for games. Or maybe I'm wrong?

I do like to overclock, why not get that extra little for free, but I used to just use the stock fan and OC it as much as it goes.

As far as I know, it's all about GPU overclocking.

Although waiting for new hardware is a risky game as you can *always* wait for something new... I would suggest trying to make due with your current GPU for a couple months. Have you considered buying used? I'm wanting to trade in my SLI 680's for a single GPU, so I'm going to be selling one of them real soon and I've had a good experience buying used GPUs from time to time.

Grab an after market cooler anyway as stock will limit your overclock by allot and also be much louder.

How much is that GD65?
If it's near $200 look at the ASUS maximus VI Hero... awesome board.

Asus DOES have support in Canada, any reason why you're dead set on ATI GPU's?
Although the Red Cards maybe cheaper, check out Driver support, noise n heat.

Ensure the Rip Jaws are
compatible with your Board of choice, cheapest isn't always the best route to go.

Good luck with the build!!

Ohh and on the memory, 1866 is pretty much the same price as 1600... no reason to pay much more but if it's only a few bucks. :)

With my OC'ing on a X79 Board I found 1866 Ram to be absolutely the sweet spot .....
