Question Home Theater PC Build Advice

My goal is to build a Home Theater PC for under $500 What do you guys think of the choices i have made? Do you see any problems with it being able to surf the web and playing smaller browser based games well and of course handle playing 1080p Movies well? Does any of the hardware go against each other? I would Also love to upgrade to the A8 chip know for a fact that it would not fit the case and cases like that are pretty slim pickins, Thanks in advance

The 250w power supply is enough to power a A6 or A8. That case has no fans as is, but lots of ventilation on the sides. I would mount a fan on a side vent to keep it from getting hot or loud.

The A8 might be pushing it a touch, but the A6 would work just fine in a 250W envelope. Agreed on putting a fan on one of the side vents, preferably a decent quality low speed one to keep noise down and keep things cool.

Any of those chips should be quite serviceable for your use case. You might run into issue with some more esoteric formats (1080p60 isn't hardware decoded - but bluray spec 1080 is, for example) but for most general HTPC things it'll be fine.

I have 2 HTPC's. Both are core i3 with built in Graphics. Both were around $400. I had an amd rig but it stuttered with 1080p mkv's.

See if you can up the processor to an A6 3670K. I run this processor in my HTPC, and I have no problems playing any kind of media and playing small games such as The Cave.

I agree with great_big_abyss - Llano is essentially an older PhenomII/AthlonII core with integrated graphics, and my HTPC is running the Athlon II x4 620 at 2.6GHz, basically a slightly slower version of the core in the 3670k without the unlocked multiplier. Runs more or less anything I throw at it, regularly streaming 1080p MKVs (both 8 and 10 bit) over Ethernet from my file server without issue.
