Default Help a girl out?

Hey there, my ex helped build my last computer and while it's still a decent computer I want an upgrade. It's not putting the computer together that's the issue but knowing what's compatible. I decided to keep the case and 750watt power supply because I believe they're good as is. The new parts I want are as follows.

Motherboard-ASUS P8Z77-V Lk ATX LGA1155 Z77 DDR3 3PCI-E16 2PCI-E1 2PCI SATA3 SLI DVI HDMI DP USB3.0 Motherboard
CPU-Intel Core i3 3220 Dual Core Hyperthreading Processor LGA1155 3.3GHZ Ivy Bridge 3MB Retail Box
Video Card-ASUS Radeon HD 7870 1.0GHZ 2GB 4.8GHZ GDDR5 CrossFireX DVI HDMI DisplayPort PCI-E DX 11
Ram-Corsair Vengeance Blue CMZ8GX3M2A1600C9B 8GB 2X4GB DDR3-1600 CL9-9-9-24 Dual Channel Memory Kit
External Hardrive- Seagate Expansion 3TB 3.5in USB3.0 Desktop External Hard Drive - Black

Do these all work with the motherboard? If not what are some other suggestions? thanx

Those all look fine. I am curious as to why the ext HD? Do you already have internal drives/SSD you plan to use? I'm not sure if Seagate have fixed the issue but be aware their USB connector on the drive side is a little flaky (poor fit) and does not seem to work with generic cables.

Whitelight, do you plan to OC and are you a gamer? What are your goals for the computer?

Depending on how much or little you game you might want to get a cheaper video card and get an I5 cpu if money is tight. In the long run it may be a better investment. You can save a couple bucks on the ram, both this... Patriot Intel Extreme Masters 8GB 2X4GB PC3-12800 DDR3-1600 9-9-9-24 1.5V Dual Channel Memory Kit (same colour as your motherboard) and Patriot Viper 3 8GB 2X4GB PC3-12800 DDR3-1600 9-9-9-24 1.5V Dual Channel Memory Kit - Black Mamba will do the same as the Corsair.

If you can give us your budget and what you plan to do with your system that will really help.

I would have to agree and say you need more CPU than an i3 to go with a HD7870. Granted everything you picked is compatible with one another, just wouldn't be a recommended combo.

Thanks guys, I'm working with about $600ish, not a set budget but saving money is always nice. I could just use the 1.0T Western Digital I have already, I don't think I'll go over that for room. I do plan to use this for gaming, a few other school projects as well but mostly for gaming. I currently have an ATI HD 4890, an ASUS p5q-Pro for a motherboard and an Intel core2 Q9550 2.8GHz. Thanks again

4890. Loved mine! Good card. What games do you play mostly? And at what resolution?

You can save a few bucks by searching for the best prices using shopbot then price matching with NCIX.
